Winston-Salem’s Walker hits for cycle in Mudcats’ 6-2 loss

ZEBULON — Steele Walker hit for the cycle, cinching the feat with an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning, as the Winston-Salem Dash evened its four-game series with the Carolina Mudcats following a 6-2 victory at Five County Stadium on Friday night.

Walker drove in four runs for the Dash (37-25), hitting a two-run homer in the fourth and lacing an RBI triple in the sixth, both off of Carolina starter Nelson Hernandez, the loser.  As part of a 4-for-5 showing, Walker tacked on a double in the eighth.

Carolina was outhit 9-6 and tied it for the final time in the fifth after Devin Hairston grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Eddie Silva. Silva doubled twice and accounted for both Mudcats runs.

John Parke earned the win for Winston-Salem, limiting the Mudcats to four hits over six innings. Codi Heuer collected the final nine outs for his second save, striking out three without a walk.

The third game of the series is set for Saturday at 5 p.m.
