ROCKY MOUNT — The Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences has adapted to the COVID- 19 pandemic and is offering a wide range of free, online arts programs.
“During this unprecedented time, we are pleased to offer a collection of arts education experiences to engage our community in creativity and fun,” Arts Education Manager Tracy Grosner said. “Programs are free, and they span a range of topics to inspire artists all ages. I hope everyone will try something new and find a creative outlet through the Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences.”
Current and upcoming offerings include:
• Mommy+Me Arts, Wednesdays, 10-10:45 a.m.
The class is free and open to mothers and children of all ages. Enjoy listening to a curated collection of books and hands-on ideas for creating art together using house materials.
• Virtual Yoga, Tuesdays, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Virtual Yoga is open to participants 14 and up. Certified yoga instructor Robin Sellers leads the weekly sessions. Participants meet via Zoom. Registration is required by 3 p.m. each Tuesday, and the class is limited to 10 participants.
• Basics of Drawing Any Object, Sept. 24, 7:30-9 p.m., Sept. 26, 11 a.m. to noon.
Explore techniques and simple strategies to build interesting compositions of objects. The Sept. 24 session is for ages 18 and up, while the Sept. 26 session is designed for ages 7-17.
• Make Your Drawings Look Real, Oct. 1, 7:30-9 p.m., Oct. 3, 11 a.m. to noon.
Learn and practice four basic pencil shading techniques that can help transform your flat-looking 2D drawing into 3D. The Oct. 1 session is for ages 18 and up, while the Oct. 3 session is for ages 7-17.
• Get Your Paintings to Pop, Oct. 8, 7:30-9 p.m., Oct. 17, 11 a.m. to noon.
Learn techniques in painting and practice creating 3D object compositions together. The Oct. 8 session is for ages 18 and up, while the Oct. 17 session is for ages 7-17.
• Student Art Series, Thursdays, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sessions are Oct. 1-22 and Oct. 29- Nov. 19.
Explore the basics of 2D media including acrylic paint, watercolor paint, chalk pastels and printmaking. The sessions restart each month and will be offered through Zoom.
