SPRING HOPE — A contractor has been selected to repair restrooms at the Spring Hope Community Park that were vandalized two months ago.
Police and firefighters responded to a fire at the park on McClean Street on Sept. 8 after a resident reported smoke coming from the building housing the facility’s bathrooms.
Authorities found heavy smoke billowing from inside the women’s bathroom where a fire had been started in a trashcan. Someone had also attempted to build a fire in the men’s bathroom using paper piled on the floor. The incident was investigated as an arson. No arrests have been made, said Spring Hope Police Chief Nathan Gant.
The women’s bathroom sustained heat and smoke damage. The men’s bathroom had smoke damage.
Servpro, a Wilson-based restoration service, will repair the damage. An estimated cost wasn’t immediately available.
Police said a witness saw two young people, one wearing a red shirt, walking away from the area near the bathrooms just before she noticed smoke in the air.
The bathroom locks were missing.
Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to call Detective T. Bell of the Spring Hope Police Department at 252-478-5504 or 252-883-0908 or email email@example.com.
