With the ease of online shopping, parents and community members can participate in the fourth annual Governor’s School Supply Drive to keep local classrooms stocked.
Gov. Roy Cooper launched the school supply drive in a virtual format this week. Cooper is partnering with the N.C. Business Committee on Education, the North Carolina PTA, VolunteerNC, State Employees’ Credit Union and Communities in Schools of North Carolina to promote the campaign.
Teachers spend roughly $500 of their own money on classroom supplies each year, and organizers say community support makes a difference.
“This is the easiest school supply drive we’ve had because it just takes a few clicks,” Cooper said in a news release. “The right supplies are vital to a successful school year for students and teachers and this year, they need our help more than ever.”
Secure, tax-deductible donations for the purchase of school supplies can be made on the North Carolina PTA website via the shortened link https://bit.ly/3kHR3c5.
Donations made through the portal can be directed to a specific county preference or to a general fund that will be divided among counties with the greatest need. The monthlong fundraiser ends on Dec. 16.
