A Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools bus was involved in a Friday morning crash while making its morning pickups of students for school.

The call came in to the Nash County 911 Center around 7:48 a.m. about a bus that had been involved in a wreck with a white pickup truck on N.C. 97 near Old Smithfield Road in the Stanhope community.

According to Christine Catalano, communications director for NRMPS, the pickup truck’s driver crossed the center line into the bus’ path. The driver of the bus moved right to avoid the truck, but the truck hit the bus, sending it into a ditch.

The seven students and bus driver on board the bus were not injured and another bus arrived to take them to Bailey Elementary School.

The driver of the truck was also uninjured. Charges in the wreck were pending last week, and all parents of children on the bus had been notified.
