Nash County Senior Services distributed 50 electric box fans to seniors in need of heat relief this summer.
The giveaway is part of the annual Operation Fan Heat Relief, held each July.
This year due to coronavirus concerns, seniors completed applications over the phone, said Nash County Senior Services supervisor Ashley Winstead.
“Although the structure of our program changed due to COVID-19, we take pride in still being able to distribute the fans to the 50 senior households in need,” Winstead said. “Thank you to all of our Senior Services staff who made this project run so smoothly.”
Qualified applicants had to be at least 60 or disabled; a Nash County resident; and have a home situation where heat poses a threat to health and safety.
Individuals who received fans this year will most likely not qualify for the program in 2021.
North Carolina’s Area Agency on Aging distributed the fans through local agencies. The fans were purchased with contributions from Duke Energy Progress and Dominion Energy.
