LOUSIBURG — A Youngsville man was arrested Tuesday and charged in the October homicide of a Bunn High School student, deputies said.

Darryl Lamont Jones, 20, was charged with first-degree murder, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

He allegedly shot and killed Mariano Palacios Hortelano, 19, at the Bunn car wash on Main Street on Oct. 27, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Hortelano was able to drive to the 300 block of Main Street from the car wash. Emergency medial services personnel rendered aid but pronounced him dead at the scene.

Jones was held in the Franklin County Detention Center without bond.

He lives on Monarch Court, Youngsville, the sheriff’s office said. The department didn’t say how Jones knew Hortleano.

The investigation was a joint effort of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Bunn and Raleigh police departments and the State Bureau of Investigation, the release said.
