ZEBULON — Tristen Lutz’s single in the bottom of the 10th inning scored inserted runner Pat McInerney from third base with the winning run for the Carolina Mudcats in their 3-2 Single-A Carolina League win over the Lynchburg Hillcats on Tuesday night.
Lutz, who drilled a two-run home run in the sixth inning to tie the score, had all three RBIs for the Mudcats (28-17) as they won the second game of the four-game series at Five County Stadium.
Lynchburg (21-22) scratched out a pair of hits off Mudcats starter Braden Webb in the top of the third inning after he walked the first three batters. Carolina was able to get a double play but the Hillcats got a run before Webb issued a wild pitch to bring in another run.
Clayton Andrews (1-1), the fourth Carolina pitcher, worked the final two innings to get the win. Hillcats reliever Anthony Gose (1-1) got the loss when Lutz ended it with his walk-off single.
The teams will take the field Wednesday morning at 11 for game 3 of the four-game series.
