BAILEY — Sheriff's deputies are investigating a Christmas Eve shooting that wounded a man at a rural Nash County home.

Authorities were called to a house on the 8300 block of Old Smithfield Road outside Bailey at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday and arrived to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound, Chief Deputy Brandon Medina of the Nash County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The victim, whose name was not immediately available, was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh for emergency care.

Medina said the shooting was isolated to a specific home. One person had been detained for questioning Tuesday night and another person who left the scene was wanted for questioning.

Deputies said the shooting remained under investigation late Tuesday.
