Dollar General plans grand opening
NASHVILLE — Dollar General’s newest store at 3650 Sandy Cross Road south of Nashville is now open for business, and a grand opening ceremony is planned at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2.
The first 50 adult shoppers at the store will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card and the first 200 shoppers will receive a Dollar General tote bag with complimentary product samples, among other giveaways.
Tickets on sale for Marine Corps Ball
ROCKY MOUNT — The Marine Corps League’s Cpl. Suzi Sannes Detachment 1262 will celebrate the 2019 Marine Corps Ball at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Rocky Mount Moose Lodge, 521 Country Club Road. A buffet-style dinner will begin at 6:45 followed by the Marine Corps birthday ceremony and a dance hosted by DJ Uncle Don at 8:30.
Admission to the dinner and dance is $25 and a cash bar will be available. Dress code for non-Marine Corps League members is business casual without tie. Members will wear red blazers with black slacks.

Church holding collard sale
SPRING HOPE — Peachtree Baptist Church, 3523 N.C. 581 N., will hold its annual collard sale from 3-6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11.
Collards are seasoned and cooked to order. The cost is $8 per quart. Pickup dates are Nov. 11, 13, 15, 18, 20 and 22. Patrons can call the church at 252-478-4418 by Friday, Nov. 8 to place an order.
Federal workers’ group to meet
ROCKY MOUNT — The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 0781 will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Gardner’s Restaurant, 1331 Wesleyan Blvd. A consultant from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Federal Employees Program will share information about the 2020 service benefit health plan. Deadline for grant applications set
ROCKY MOUNT — The Edgecombe and Nash Juvenile Crime Prevention Councils have intervention and prevention funds available to serve at-risk youth in Edgecombe and Nash counties. The deadline for submitting applications will be Nov. 18. Church schedules Christmas bazaar
NASHVILLE — Rock Creek Baptist Church, 1238 Rock Creek Drive, will hold a Christmas bazaar with area vendors from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.
