Free tax prep service offered

NASHVILLE — Internal Revenue Service-certified volunteers will provide free tax preparation from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, and Friday, Jan. 31, at the Harold Cooley Library, 114 W. Church St. The service will continue through April 15.

Church security seminar planned

Singer-songwriter Will West plans concert

NASHVILLE — Nash County native Will West will give a special acoustic performance at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Nash Arts Center. West lives in Portland, Oregon, and is a 1995 Southern Nash High School graduate. His music is described as “a fusion of folk, bluegrass, pop, jazz and other wonderful weirdness.”

Cemetery to remove Christmas flowers

BAILEY — Town officials are asking family members to remove all Christmas flowers and winter decorations from Bailey Cemetery gravesites by Sunday, Feb. 2. Any flowers left at the cemetery after Sunday will be removed and disposed of. For more information, contact Debbie or Kellie at Bailey Town Hall by calling 252-235-4977.

Church plans Relay for Life fundraiser

NASHVILLE — Sandy Cross United Methodist Church’s “Fruit of the Spirit” Relay for Life team will have a sausage, egg and pancake supper fundraiser from 5 - 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the 3725 Sandy Cross Road church. The cost is $7 for all you can eat and diners will pay at the door. Takeout will be available. Proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. Pancake supper supports Firebirds band

BAILEY — A pancake supper fundraiser for the Southern Nash High School band is scheduled from 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Bailey United Methodist Church, 12437 Green St. Tickets are $7 each for all-you-can-eat pancakes and sausage. Tickets are available from the school concession stand, Band Director Matt Ray or from any band student.

Mother-son dance signups begin

ROCKY MOUNT — Registration is ongoing for the annual “A King’s First Queen” mother-son dance to be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21 at the Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences.

The event is for women with young men ages 3-18. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served, and music will be provided by DJ. Uncle Mike.

Tickets are available at the Booker T. Washington Community Center for $25 per couple. Additional males are $5 each. Registration can be taken by phone at 252-467-4925.
