Flag-raising planned for Friday

ROCKY MOUNT — The Joint Veterans Committee of Nash and Edgecombe Counties will hold a flag-raising ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Jack Laughery Park. Each month, the committee honors a deceased veteran by presenting his or her family with a flag flown over the park the previous month. On Saturday, a flag will be given to the family of Sgt. 1st Class Willie Herbert Ward Jr., U.S. Army. A flag will be raised to honor Chris Hardy of the U.S. Navy.

Democrats plan precinct meeting

SPRING HOPE — The Nash County Democratic Party’s Spring Hope Precinct No. P06A will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 116 N. Old Louisburg Road. All Democrats are encouraged to attend. Voter registration forms will be available to those not registered.

Pancake supper supports Firebirds band

BAILEY — A pancake supper fundraiser for the Southern Nash High School band is scheduled from 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Bailey United Methodist Church, 12437 Green St. Tickets are $7 each for all-you-can-eat pancakes and sausage. Tickets are available from the school concession stand, Band Director Matt Ray or from any band student.

Celebrate Life banquet scheduled

ROCKY MOUNT — Your Choice Pregnancy Resource Center will hold its 30th annual Celebrate Life banquet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at Englewood Baptist Church. The cost is $20 person. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Reservations will be confirmed upon receipt of money by Feb. 19. To order tickets, mail a check to 400 Sunset Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

Blooming Festival seeks vendors, parade entries

NASHVILLE — The Nashville Chamber of Commerce is accepting craft and exhibit booth applications and parade entries for the annual Nashville Blooming Festival planned May 8-9. Applications can be downloaded at www.nashvillencchamber.org. For more information, call 252-459-4050.
