BAILEY — Minutes from Bailey Board of Commissioners meetings are being updated on the town website after a two-year lapse.

The updates are overdue and should help show the board’s transparency, Commissioner Joel Killion said at the town’s most recent meeting.

All minutes from 2017 to the present for all regular meetings, as well as all special and regular meetings and public hearings, have been added to the town’s website. Already listed are minutes from 2013-16. Special meeting and public hearing minutes from 2016 have been updated.

Commissioners originally thought the task would take a lot of time to complete, but Town Clerk Kellie Glover was able to get it done in two days.

To see the updates, visit www.townofbaileync.org/board-meeting-minutes.

The website includes a disclaimer that the online versions are not considered official copies of the meeting minutes.

While governing bodies review and approve minutes of past meetings to establish a formal record of actions, incomplete or unapproved drafts of those documents are still considered public records under North Carolina law.

Anyone requiring a copy of the official version of one of the posted documents can contact the town clerk’s office at 252-235-4977 or email townclerk@townofbaileync.org.

Town Hall at 6217 Main St. is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and is closed on holidays.
