BAILEY — Two Nash County residents died Saturday in a wreck near Bailey.

Ashton Lee Duke, 23, of Spring Hope, and Mandy Joy Hall, also 23, of Nashville died around 1:30 a.m. on West Hornes Church Road near Liles Road, according to a duty dispatcher with the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Duke lost control of his pickup truck, went off road and overcorrected, causing the truck to strike a mailbox, fly into the air and slam into a tree, according to the Highway Patrol.

Duke was not wearing a seat belt. Hall, who sat in the front passenger seat, was buckled.

Authorities didn’t immediately disclose whether speed or alcohol were factors in the fatal wreck. State troopers are investigating the crash.
