MIDDLESEX — A major dentist chain with offices in Raleigh and Cary wants to fill an empty building in Middlesex.
The town board plans to apply for a state building reuse grant to upgrade the old dentist office that’s been unoccupied for two years on East Finch Avenue for Lane and Associates, a dentist office with 30 locations throughout the Triangle and Triad areas.
“We’ve had good conversations. We hope to have it in town by the turn of the year,” said Mayor Lu Harvey Lewis.
To that end, the town board approved a rural economic development grant application due Aug. 29. The state will announce the award recipients Oct. 17.
“It requires a public-private partnership, so it takes both of us to get it,” Lewis said. “This is a super-good opportunity.”
Lewis said other than an empty storefront next to Town Hall, downtown Middlesex is full.
“We’re what I call ‘building-limited.’ All our buildings are occupied. I’m in talks with some folks to see about building some new buildings for downtown,” Lewis said. “With Wake County going up on their taxes, people will look elsewhere to live and we’re right next door.”
The new residents will want amenities and a well-known dentist office like Lane and Associates will be just the sort of thing they’re looking for, Lewis said.
The dentist office would join Bow Wowza Boutique, a pet grooming business, and All Star Auto and Tire, both of which opened in downtown Middlesex over the summer.
“All Star moved into town and is doing more business,” Lewis said.
Lane and Associates provides comprehensive dental cleaning, restorative crown and fillings, wisdom teeth removal and tooth extractions, among other services, according to information from the company.
